This article linked below came up for me this morning and I flagged it to write about, especially in light of Kate Spade having committed suicide this week. Then I read about Anthony Bourdain. Your mental health is your highest priority – no matter who you are.

The article says this upward trend of suicide is not due to mental health issues – they are speaking of diagnoses like depression, bipolar, etc. When people ask me about life coaching, I always tell them that the most important money they will spend is the money spent on getting to know and understand how their mind works.

To me, this means that maintaining mental health applies to all of us. It is the same as exercising to keep your body healthy. You need to understand how to manage your mind and keep it healthy too. Your thoughts create your feelings. Nothing outside is making you feel one way or the other. It is always what you are thinking about what is happening around you.

The best news there is: thoughts are optional. You get to notice what you are thinking. If those thoughts are not serving you, you can pick the thoughts you choose to focus on. You get to decide how to feel at any given moment. It does not mean we are supposed to be happy ALL THE TIME. No one is. It means that you can experience feeling sad, frustrated, angry without reacting to it. You can allow it and know it is going to pass. Nothing has gone wrong.

So yes, check in with your people. Help them see what they’ve been telling themselves in their brain. Help them see that they can choose a different story; one that serves them better. Above all else, reach out to a life coach. I mean it. I’m a professional life coach and I HIRE COACHES. Everyone needs an outside perspective now and then to fully see what is going on in their life. I don’t mean hire ME. I mean get out there and find an excellent coach. Hint – coaches certified at The Life Coach School are the best in the industry in my opinion. Yes, I’m biased.

If you want to work with a coach, reach out to me and I will refer you to a coach who is a great matchup for what you want to work towards. I do not coach individually any longer – I teach widows to coach widows. So you have a great resource in me for a referral to a coach whether it is for weight loss, your relationships, your marriage, your career, stress, whatever it is that you need a little help with. If you are a widow and feel that becoming a certified widow coach is the direction you want to take your life in, do reach out by going to http://widowcoaches.com  We are widows coaching widows, and changing how the world views what it means to become widowed.
