What you believe about your weight and your body creates the thoughts you think. All your thoughts about it become your belief system, and that is what drives your actions. Your belief system is creating your life, just as surely as gravity holds you to the planet and an object in motion remains in motion. Indisputable laws of the universe like these includes your thoughts that spring forward from your beliefs. The thoughts that play in your mind create how you feel and what you do.
I recently decided to take action to reinforce my own shifting beliefs. The action was new shoes. No kidding! I went to find the most amazing, sexy new shoes that I could – and I found a pair of amazing dress sandals. Then as I was headed to the register, a skirt caught my eye and my new shoes were saying, “Oh we NEED this skirt.” So I tried it on and yep, my new shoes needed that skirt. Making those purchases and coming home to put them on had me walking on air. My new beliefs were becoming solid. No way am I all the way down to my best weight yet. Old beliefs would not have allowed me to buy that skirt until I was close to my best weight. But new beliefs changed everything and I felt as happy and light about my purchases as I would have been buying 2 sizes smaller.
So how do you begin to shift your belief system? If you could sit across from your belief system over a cup of cappuccino at your local Starbucks, what would you ask it? Sound like a “flight of fancy?” It’s not – you can indeed ask! So get your cappuccino ready and try out these 6 questions to see what your belief system says weight loss would mean to you. Get out a piece of paper and write down each question and your responses.
- What would happen if I snapped my fingers and you were suddenly in the body you are wishing for? Think about being in your body after losing the extra pounds and write down all the feelings you have. Really, get a piece of paper right now and start writing down your feelings now that you are in your leaner body. Don’t just read this – do this!
- Is it really the thinness (for lack of a better word) you want or the feelings you believe the thinness will bring you?
- Why or why not?
- If you were thin, what would you be thinking? Write down those thoughts.
- What are you thinking right now in comparison to those “thin thoughts” you just wrote down?
- What feelings are your current thoughts creating?
So did you do the questions for yourself? You see what we did there – you can now clearly see the thoughts and feelings you are wanting to have by dropping weight, and the thoughts and feelings you are having right now. Your thoughts right NOW could begin changing if you chose to look at new thoughts. These would make you feel more like you imagined you will feel when you are thinner. Now that you see the difference in your thoughts, you can indeed start to chose the thoughts that make you feel lighter. If you start having the “thinner you” thoughts and feelings NOW, then you will begin not only feeling like thinner you, you will begin to behave like thinner you. When you begin to behave like thinner you – you become thinner you. Shifting my beliefs dropped another 5 lbs, gained some sexy shoes and a darling skirt. Can you guess how I’m feeling? Yep! Get this for you too. Now if you didn’t get a pad of paper and work through the questions, it’s not too late. Start at the top and work your way through. Then leave a comment below to share what you discovered. I’ve read that leaving a comment burns 3 calories!
